Finding Beauty
Welcome to the world, little baby
I hate to tell you already
But this is an ugly place
And what you must know, most of all, is that
Everyone is on a journey
Whether they are sure of it or not
To find the beauty in this ugly place
You’ll grow up in this ugly world
But find beauty at every turn
You’ll laugh and you’ll cry
You’ll sing and you’ll dance
You’ll find courage and you’ll feel fear
You’ll find love and you’ll feel hate
You’ll say you’ll do things you never will
You’ll be sad when you don’t get your way
And even sadder when you do
You’ll feel silly and you’ll find faith
You’ll find beauty and you’ll find grace
Oh, the hope and joy and love and life
Seems to equal out
To the fear, the sad, the doubt, and loss
But you’ll find beauty in this ugly world
I know this mostly because
My mom found your mom
Who created the beauty in you
Jolene,
You don’t even know your own name yet
or even who you want to be
But I love you already
Because you’re a part of my sister
Who is a part of me.
I can’t wait for your beauty
To enter this ugly world
To help fulfill our need
For hope
And love
And joy
And life.
